There’s always a saying that we should let go the past and look forward. But in terms of ‘sustainability’, it’s a different story. In order to achieve a sustainable future, we need a renaissance. The hype of consumerism has changed people’s notion of value, we are used to buying and throwing. Before, we used to keep things and repair them. Though some objects didn’t have high economical value, they were treasured. They are not wearied by age, instead, they are endowed with invaluable stories. In this group project, we memorialize the past by exploring and making ‘biographies’ for these old objects, restoring them to the currents of life.
When my grandma got married, most families at that time could not afford to buy a formal bridal gown. In order to give her a surprise, my grandpa saved his wages for several months and bought a very stylish black coat for her to wear at their wedding.
