Emotion Dysregulation & Borderline Personality Disorder

Strong feelings deserve understanding and skills you can use.

Understanding your experience

When emotions rise quickly or take a long time to settle, ordinary moments can become overwhelming. You might feel pulled between wanting closeness and fearing rejection, or regret things said in distress. These experiences can occur with or without a borderline personality disorder diagnosis. We begin with your experience rather than an assumption about a label.

Validation and change can happen together.

My work integrates DBT-informed skills with curiosity about your relationships, background, and strengths. We look closely at a difficult moment: what happened, what you felt, and where another response might become possible.

We can practice noticing emotions earlier, tolerating distress, and communicating needs more directly. We also explore how family and cultural messages have shaped which emotions feel acceptable to express.

If you need a comprehensive DBT program or more intensive support, we will discuss appropriate care and referral options. Individual skills work and a full DBT program differ in structure and available support.
