Couples & Family Therapy Approaches

Look beyond the disagreement to the relationship underneath.

A closer look

Relationship therapy considers how people influence one another within a couple or family. I draw on family systems, attachment-focused work, emotionally focused approaches, and DBT-informed skills. Together, these perspectives help us explore emotional needs as well as the everyday interactions that strengthen or strain connection.

Bring insight into the conversation itself.

We can use a recent interaction to understand what each person experienced. Slowing it down helps reveal the need beneath a criticism or the fear beneath a withdrawal. We then practice expressing that experience in a way another person can hear.

My work with immigrant and cross-cultural families includes attention to family obligations, parenting traditions, and different expectations about independence. We explore these meanings without assuming one cultural perspective should take priority.

The approach is tailored to your family rather than organized around a single technique. For young children, Child-Parent Psychotherapy offers a developmentally focused way to work with the caregiver relationship.
