High Conflict Couples and Families
Slow down the cycle before it takes over the relationship.
Understanding your experience
Some disagreements quickly become criticism, defensiveness, or silence. When that pattern repeats, everyone can feel unheard. Therapy helps us examine what happens between family members and what each person is trying to protect. The goal is to create more room for listening, boundaries, and repair.
Work with the interaction, not a designated problem person.
We identify the sequence that keeps you stuck and practice interrupting it earlier. This might mean recognizing overwhelm, agreeing on a pause, or expressing a need without accusation.
As a bilingual, bicultural therapist, I pay attention to how respect, obligation, independence, and emotional expression can mean different things within the same family. Understanding these differences can make a practical conversation possible.
We assess whether meeting together is appropriate. When there is fear, coercion, or violence, safety and individual support take priority over joint communication work.
